This is a photo of a huge Rock fall on EEOR in Canmore yesturday. Sort of scary when you think people climb and hike all over the place up there. The location of the slide is the Mckay route I would wait 10 years before adding this one to my tick list !!

Back in the day (way to start a post) I used to fly fish a little so I decided that now that I have a son I better relearn again so that when he comes of age we can go together. The thing that surprises me is that every body that I talk to about fishing is also a fisherman; it's like Canmore has a bunch of angler anonymous. Here's a couple picture of me and my son fishing in Canmore during a warm afternoon.

Went for a Sunday ski with Joe yesterday at the Prince despite bad conditions we found some interesting stuff to do and had great day.

Here is the dirt on our new route on Bastin Wall that the Huisman's and I finished this week. An awesome route on great rock. This description was inspired by some of our local guide books here in the Bow Valley :)

Description:

This beautiful and spicy route will soon become a test piece for the accomplished and serious leader in the 5.11 range. Put in on an amazing tour of force by Roy and Huisman in the blistering heat of July 06. All bolted in one day and then every pitch was sent on the first attempt in a incredible push on the second day. Definitively proving who is in charge at the Bastion Wall.

Pitch 01: Same as Goldie 12 bolts 10c 30m

Pitch 02: difficult move up to the first bolt on good crimp 10+, climb past 3 more bolt to an 11a crux then cruise past 2 more bolts. Clip the 4th bolt from the top and down climb 5 feet and traverse right 5 feet, than climb up to gain a shallow corner. Step into the corner with difficulty 11d/12a than straight up over the small roof and past 3 more bolts to gain the anchor. 10bolts 11d/12a 27m.

Pitch 03: one of the best pitches on the Bastion Wall. Climb the choss corner for 5 feet to clip the first bolt then climb immaculate rock in a corner for a couple more bolts make a hard traverse right to gain a steep slab on the prow 11a. Clip the 6th bolt with a long runner go right into corner and traverse back left to the bolt after 10 feet of scary 5.9+ follow the bolts on sweet rock 5.10d to the anchor. 12 bolts 11a 30m

Pitch 04: A sustained and spicy pitch. This one should put a few hair on the chest of the most serious leader. Have fun waxing after this. 7 bolts 11d/12a 29m

Smile and despite the note of sarcasm (that is maybe only caught by those who don't climb second to their egos) this route description is true and accurate to the best of my memory.

Goldie is Done

Super psyched!!! Shawn and I just finished the one year project at the Bastion Wall in the Ghost "Goldie" and we did not need to hire help for it !! This has been a bit of a battle compared to Lost in Translation and Devils and Dust (Both 5.11). This one is substantially harder and steeper the rock is again great especially on the last 3 pitches. The goal today was to work on pitch 3 and 4 . I sent #3 on the first try and Shawn send pitch 4 on his first try also, so that's how the day ended. All we had left to do was go to the car and drink a beer. Can't wait to hear about a second ascent so get off you butt and go do it guys and girls.

Project in the Ghost

I need to write a little more I will try to do my best work as taken allot of my time in the last little bite but that OK , it actually cool to be in to work like this for me it keep confirming that I found my vocation , for now anyway....

Here a pict of Shawn Huisman on thee new route we working on in the ghost , that one taking allot more time than the other two I was involve with. At first that frustrated me a little and was contemplating hiring some help to free the 3 pitch. But we return this years to move a few bolt around to make the thing safer and I finally figured out the sequence on the hard pitch. This one is teaching me allot. The quick and easy one are nice and rewarding but as cliche as that sound it really all about the process. I will go back next weekend to go play on it again and see if I can put it together I'd really like to get it done before baby come along but the thing that I know now is there always next year.

I regain a new respect for Bouldering this week . I when on a small road trip for work with Raw Bones to Lethbridge so we decided to have a slice of humble pie at Big Rock . We got spank pretty good just doing to problem that have no grade in the book :) that was fun and I'll go back for sure . Here a pick of Rob at Big Rock.

What to do what to do ????

So here we are, we pack our gear in Mike hanger 2 days ago and we still waiting look like the weather is going to be ok for toning but I serious ly think I have a bad case of optimism however we should see. We awoke to 2 inch of snow this morning . Now we have to decide what we going to do all of our life are still running in the back ground and at this point we need to see if it worth goigng I like to go so I can get the experience. I hard to joint all part of your life and balance theme out so they dont suffere from each other. On one side I took the time off so I rather go climbing, but if we get home late it going to be tough for me and Shawn we both have to go back to work. On the brite side I got some good rest in the last 3 days.

I 'm also realizing that it harder to be away since Irene is pragnant it not the same to go away for a long time. I do miss the baby little kick and watching it grow day by day. I going to be cool to see Irene when she get here I hope she get to fly in with Mike to come and get us.

Me and the Sean's have being waiting for a helicopter ride to the Mountain for 2 days the weater is not that great up there so we haggning at Irene parent witch is great , they have been so hospitable it incredible we supose to be here for one night . At this rate by the time we go they be no more food in the house .... I do feel for the guy's that are on the glacier rite now they also can't fly out (Josh B) and I guess is got a bad knee so pretty happy I'm here by the stove waiting for the dial-up to work it slow magic and getting the weather report. if thing stay slow I will post some picture tomorrow morning.

we leaving for the Wad at 5am tomorrow that in 6 hours pretty stoke !!! This should be a great experience looking foward to learn new thing (forget at about Broke Back Mountain) The boys advise me to bring vaseline I was like f$#@%%$# this I'm bring sand paper ... long story but I will let you all know how that turn out.

Hey all this is the start of the new Louis Blog should be funny ... If you have the patience to read my stuff in my second language read on!

Here a pict of me and Irene in at the Red Rock Rendez-Vous just like to point out that my girl is now 23 week pregnant pretty wild trip definitively a cool experience. That what the title of the blog is about old and new experience with is what define us as people. The baby is due to arrive in our world for August 6 or so I will make sure to be a good dad and post a tone a picture out here so you can all see the fruit of our love .

Tomorrow I'm leaving to go on a short expedition to the coast range with Sean and Shawn . The goal is to climb a new route on Mount Tedeman (can event spell it) this should be a good trip I will make sure to post some picture here when I get back .

Sweet see you all soon, come back and check-in in early May they should be some fun stuff on here.
